Microsoft’s New Pocket Ace - Microsoft Surface

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Microsoft has just announced a new technology that is poised to be the next big thing. The Apple iPhone may be taking the multi-touch screen to the mobile market in a new way but it appears that Microsoft is slated to do the same everywhere else with its new “Surface” . While this technology seems new it has actually been around for awhile. However, it wasn’t until Jeff Han’s demonstration at the TED conference in 2006 that people really got a chance to see what was typically reserved for science fiction become a reality. It would appear that the folks over at Microsoft got a hold of Jeff and the end product is what we expect to see with Surface. I personally am very excited about what this will do for the computer industry. I love what I am seeing and quite simply can’t wait to see more. Below is Jeff Han’s original demonstration of what his new multi touch technology is capable of and make sure to check out the Microsoft site that has some very fun videos demonstrating what they believe Surface will provide for them. And just because I will probably never live this post down, this post is dedicated to Andrew Venegas for first introducing this technology to me. And yes Drew, I wrote it off as a novelty just the first time you showed me and again about four days ago but now I believe in Jeff Han.

3: Google Analytics Update and Google Reader

Friday, May 18th, 2007

For those of you already on the Google Analytics bandwagon you will have noticed that there has been an update to the interface. They have added some new features and made some already powerful ones easer to find and use. If you have your own domain and you are interested in keeping track of your sites states give Google Analytics a try its free and super legit. Check out there demo here.

I also have decided to give Google Reader a try. I went ahead and put all the feeds from my fellow bloggers in the reader and added a widget to my Google page. For those of you already using Gmail this Google application looks and works pretty much the same so the jump is easy. I seem to like it and its an easy way to keep track of my friends blogs. Well I am out of time…

HD DVD Crack, A Digital Revolt, and The Digg Response

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

What is all the hubbub about you ask? Well its this…

Free Speech Flag
The c0 stands for Crime Zero

Yup… to the average viewer just a string of code but to the trained eye a line of hex numbers and with a bit of back ground information on there use they are way more then just numbers. Those simple numbers represent an exploit in the HD DVD DRM (digital rights management, and wow that was a lot of abbreviation’s) thus provide a way to illegally copy HD DVD’s (but only if your using linux). Not that big of a deal when you think about it given the fact that most DRM’s have been cracked in some way and if they aren’t already they will be eventually. What makes this really good is when it get political. (more…)

Update: Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen Speaks At SJSU

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

I had the pleasure earlier today to sit in on a the last in a series of guest speeches at SJSU put on by the Dean’s Speaker Series. This time Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen gave a talk about everything from how Adobe deals with pressure from competitors to its hiring policies. The best part about Bruce’s talk was just that, it was much more of an informal talk then a organized presentation or formal interview. This allowed Bruce to really get comfortable and give a very targeted talk to SJSU students. Among the highlights was a discussion that led to a open comment on his distaste for Microsoft and Stanford. Saying that “Stanford has an attitude that is hard to work with. They don’t need Adobe and we don’t need Stanford.” He also gave what was an almost jealous comment on how Google is making it hard to find good programmers in Silicon Valley because of there Segway’s and free meals, saying “they will have to grow up eventually.” In all it was a great time and I managed to snap a photo at the end. If you are looking for more coverage of today’s even be sure to check out The Soup Box Prophet and Kyle’s Comments as they will likely have a more journalistic approach to todays events.
